Star Wars film-makers have finally revealed the name of the next film as The Force Awakens, after months of speculation among fans.

The film is the seventh in the sci-fi series and has been shooting for a number of months, in locations including the UK.

It is set 30 years after the events of Return Of The Jedi - which was released in 1983 - and features many original cast members including Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford.

The name was revealed on Twitter with a message which read: "Star Wars: The Force Awakens has completed principal photography."

The film is directed by JJ Abrams, who helped to revive interest in the Star Trek series.

Ford is reviving his role as Han Solo although filming of some of his scenes was delayed after he suffered an injury earlier in the year.

The finished film is due to be released on December 18 2015.
