A NURSE has won £50,000 in compensation after she was injured pulling curtains around a patient's bed.

Nursing auxiliary Linda Mitchell, 59, suffered an injury to her neck and shoulders when the heavy curtains jammed and was unable to return to work after the incident, at the Belford Hospital in Fort William in September 2008.

She launched a civil action against NHS Highland at the Court of Session in Edinburgh. The health board denied liability but offered to pay £50,000, which was accepted.

Ms Mitchell said her injury could have been avoided.
