THE family of a married Scottish mother who died days after arriving in India to meet her online lover have described their "nightmare".

Dundee nurse Angela Slinn, 45, contracted acute pneumonia after travelling to Ludhiana in the Punjab region to meet Jaspal Singh, 30, without telling her estranged husband.

She died in hospital on Sunday.

The mother-of-three had struck up an online relationship with Mr Singh on Facebook following the breakdown of her marriage to husband, Stephen Slinn, 48.

Her mother-in-law, Doreen Slinn, said the family were devastated.

She said: "She [Angela] was as fit as a fiddle and I just don't understand how a strong and healthy woman can suddenly die like that.

"We are devastated for our son and our grandchildren. Everything is just a nightmare at the moment."

Mrs Slinn had three children - Natasha, 21, Joseph 16, and 15-year-old Nathan.

Her Indian boyfriend said he feared the hot weather may have killed her. Temperatures in Punjab have been higher than 40°C recently (104°F).

Mr Singh said: "She had been sick for ten days. We diagnosed her with severe pneumonia and she died of multiple organ failure. I had to tell her children their mother had died. It was the hardest thing I have ever had to do."

Mrs Slinn's death is being examined by the police as she was a visiting foreigner to the country, but Ludhiana police commissioner Pramod Ban said there were no suspicious circumstances.

He said: "So far, we have no reason for any doubt. The woman caught pneumonia after landing in India and went to hospital, where her condition got worse."
