There will be a Whole Lotta Love for Jimmy Page when the legendary guitarist goes on stage at the NME Awards to pick up a unique gong.

The musician, whose guitar playing powered Led Zeppelin to become one of the biggest bands in the world, will accept the Rock 'n' Roll Soul Award at Brixton Academy on Wednesday.

NME's editor Mike Williams said: "This special one-off award has been created to reflect one of the most important and iconic figures to have ever picked up an instrument. There is nobody in popular culture quite like Jimmy Page, and we are honoured to be giving him the Rock 'n' Roll Soul Award at this year's ceremony."

Page, widely regarded as one of the greatest rock guitarists ever, was an in-demand session man before finding fame and played on some of the biggest hits of the 1960s including songs by The Who, The Kinks and Them.

He also had a stint with pioneering rockers The Yardbirds, playing alongside Jeff Beck and then later replacing him in the group which eventually became Led Zeppelin.

Wednesday's awards will also see Suede named as winners of the Godlike Genius award.

The Clash, Paul Weller, The Cure, Manic Street Preachers, New Order and Joy Division, Dave Grohl, Noel Gallagher, Johnny Marr and Blondie are among previous winners.

Music fans have cast hundreds of thousands of votes across 22 categories for the NME Awards 2015 with Austin, Texas.

Kasabian are leading the charge with eight nominations while Royal Blood and Jamie T follow closely with seven nominations each.

Singer Charli XCX, Royal Blood, Run The Jewels and The Vaccines are set to perform at the ceremony.
