No answers after blood probe ends

THE number of people hit by contaminated NHS blood products may never be known, lawyers campaigning for victims said as an inquiry drew to a close.

Lord Penrose has been examining how people received contaminated blood in the 1970s and 1980s. Hundreds of people in Scotland are thought to have been exposed to infection.

Thompsons Solicitors campaigned for the inquiry. Partner Patrick McGuire said: "Countless people have worked tirelessly to ensure this inquiry served its purpose. It seems that at this final but vital hurdle all hopes of achieving the answers these victims so badly need could be diminished."
