The first hidden paper sculpture made by an anonymous artist to celebrate Book Week Scotland has been discovered in Glasgow.

Book Week Scotland is the nation's first national celebration of books and reading, and as part of its events this week, five new paper sculptures by the anonymous artist whose creations appeared in Edinburgh last year are being hidden across the country.

Yesterday, following clues set by the Scottish Book Trust, Emma Lister from Glasgow found the first Book Week Scotland sculpture at the Glasgow School of Art. Inspired by the novel Lanark, by Alasdair Gray, the sculpture of the author and artist is made from books.

Clues to find a sculpture a day are being posted on the trust's website every morning this week.

Ms Lister said: "I am so excited as I am very interested in the book as an art object. I only discovered the competition today and decide to take a chance. I am a big Alasdair Gray fan and Lanark is one of my favourite books. I'll treasure my sculpture."

Marc Lambert, chief executive of the Scottish Book Trust, said: "Book Week Scotland is an ideal time to celebrate these unique pieces of art, inspired as they are by a love of books, reading and libraries."

Meanwhile, Venus Hor, a pupil at Blackfriars Primary in Glasgow, got her head into Jack and the FlumFlum tree, after receiving it as part of a three-book Bookbug pack. They are being handed out to every primary one pupil in Scotland.
