BBC Scotland said it has not yet decided who will replace presenter Jackie Bird as the face of their Children In Need appeal after she underwent life-saving surgery.

The Reporting Scotland anchor was continuing to improve yesterday after receiving treatment at Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride.

Bird, 50, was three hours from death after suffering stomach pains on Wednesday. She was taken to hospital, where surgeons removed sections of her intestine after she was diagnosed with a twisted bowel, where the blood supply is cut off to part of the intestine. She was in intensive care, but is now out of danger.

She has fronted the Children in Need show north of the Border since 2000, and was due to present it from Aberdeen on Friday.
