Nursery E.coli cause identified

AN E.coli outbreak at a Scots nursery is believed to have been caused by one of the children coming into contact with animal faeces or contaminated water.

A joint report by Aberdeenshire Council and NHS Grampian found the bacteria then spread through Rose Lodge Nursery School in Aboyne, Aberdeenshire, because of a lack of hand hygiene.

Seven people were infected by the potentially fatal E.coli O157 strain, including four infants, two nursery employees and a family member. One child is still in hospital almost five months after the outbreak in May.
