Emergency services cordoned off part of a town after a man called police thinking he had anthrax.

Police Scotland said they went to Gideon Court in Bathgate, West Lothian, at about 6.55am today following reports of concern for a man's health.

A 32-year-old man was taken to hospital while three other people in the house were checked over.

Another man believed to have been at the property was also traced and checked.

It is understood no-one in the house had anthrax.

Nearby streets were cordoned off and premises including the Rainbow Nursery in nearby Gideon Street were shut as a precaution while emergency services dealt with the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police in West Lothian, along with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Scottish Ambulance Service, responded to an address in Gideon Court, Bathgate, following a report of concern for a male's health.

"Upon entry to the property, three occupants were found inside and have now been checked over by ambulance staff. There are no concerns for these individuals' health."
