The organisers of the Highlands' first-ever carol service at a football stadium are having fun with seasonal wordplay, with talk of Jose Myrr-inho, Frank-incense Lampard and Andy Carroll.

They won't be there. But some of the players will be at Ross County's ground in Dingwall on Sunday presumably including 'the Feast of Steven' Saunders and Ross.

Along with staff they will commemorate the remarkable truce during World War I, when on Christmas Day in 1914 fighting ceased in the trenches and both sides sang the well-known carol 'Silent Night' across No Man's Land, before soldiers from the British and German armies joined together to play football.

Fans and the rest of the local community have been invited to join the club for the service at the Global Energy Stadium at 3pm.

The idea has come from club chaplain Rev Iain MacAskill, who ministers at the nearby Rosskeen Free Church, in Easter Ross.

Mr MacAskill said: "There will be an opportunity to stay behind afterwards for some chat with staff and players, and a special commemorative programme will be given to each person attending."

But how much festive cheer attends the occasion, will depend on whether Hamilton Academicals came bearing gifts the day before.
