A woman who shared the title of world's oldest twin with her dearly beloved sister has died at the age of 104 at a care home in Aberdeenshire.

Edith Ritchie and Evelyn Middleton held the Guinness World Record for being the oldest living twins on the planet.

But Edith died on Friday at the Bonnyton care home, where the sisters lived for the past four years.

The twins, whose maiden name is Rennie, were born on a farm near Newburgh on November 15, 1909. They were the youngest children in a family of nine.

They entered the record books around their 102nd birthday.E

It looks like their long life span has been down to genes - their mother Mary Rennie lived to 101.

Edith's funeral will take place in St Mary On The Rock, Ellon, on Friday.
