One hull of a job

IT took five hours to inch the last hull section to be built for Britain's new aircraft carrier from the quayside at Govan shipyard on to one of the world's biggest barges.

And it will take another fortnight before specialists finish welding and fastening the giant steel structure to the barge deck before a 600-mile sea journey around the top of Scotland to Rosyth.

The operation went without a hitch yesterday unlike the day before when it had to be abandoned due to a problem with the vessel's ballast system.
