The Live Aid organiser received the award yesterday for his services to music and contribution to international social justice and peace. The 61-year-old Boomtown Rats frontman is already a freeman of his native Dublin. London's presentation is one of the oldest surviving traditional ceremonies still in existence and dates back to 1237. Geldof joins a list of people given the honour that includes all monarchs and many other royals.
