The global head of brand for a Scottish whisky firm has been banned for dangerous driving.

Christopher Watt, 25, was disqualified from the road for a year after he admitted clocking 114 miles per hour on his way home from the Dalmore distillery.

Perth Sheriff Court was told yesterday that Watt – who recently launched a $250,000 whisky collection in the US – had flown back for his court case.

Fiscal depute Robbie Brown said the police were carrying out a speed check on the road when their attention was initially drawn to a vehicle going even faster than Watt's.

The officers then followed Watt's car and clocked him driving at an average of 114 miles per hour over a marked distance.

Watt, from Edinburgh, admitted driving dangerously on the M90 motorway between Perth and Inverkeithing on August 27 this year.

Sheriff Michael Fletcher banned Watt for a year and ordered him to pass the extended driving test before being allowed to return to the road. Watt was also fined £1000.

As the global head of brand for Dalmore malt whisky, Watt was in New York for the launch of a collectors casket.
