A passenger died after becoming ill on an Edinburgh Tram.

 

Travellers faced delays after the medical emergency halted the trams service for more than an hour.

Edinburgh Trams tweeted that "due to an ongoing emergency incident at Haymarket we are experiencing delays at this time apologies for any inconvenience".

Services resumed around 1.15pm.

A police spokeswoman said: "Police in Edinburgh were called to Haymarket following reports that a 74-year-old man had become unwell aboard an Edinburgh Tram.

"He man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The death is currently being treated as unexplained and enquiries into the full circumstances are ongoing.

"A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."
