A PEDESTRIAN has died after being hit by a car on the M8.

Nicky Edwards, 37, was struck at around 8.30pm on Friday on the motorway between Livingston and Bathgate.

Emergency services attended, however, the man died at the scene.

It happened on the westbound carriageway between junction 3 Livingston and junction 3A Bathgate.

The road was closed for six hours while emergency services investigated and cleared the scene.

Police are appealing for any witnesses.

Sergeant Scott Sneddon said: "Enquiries are still ongoing and our sincere condolences go out to Nicky's family and friends.

"We're appealing for anyone who saw the incident, or who may have seen a man in the vicinity of the Deans overbridge on the M8 shortly beforehand, to get in touch as soon as possible."

Meanwhile, two men who died in a car crash on the A9 earlier this week were named by police.

Mark Brodie, 48, from Leven in Fife and 47-year-old James Alexander Williamson from Perth, died in the accident at around 4pm on Thursday.

The families of the men have said they will be greatly missed.

Officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash.

Work to convert the A9 to a complete dual carriageway has started but will not be completed until 2025, according to plans.

In a bid to improve safety on the road, average speed cameras were installed along much of it last year.
