A PEDESTRIAN believed to have been hit by a lorry has died.

Kieran Currie, 19, was apparently struck by an eastbound vehicle on the A75 Gretna to Stranraer road in Dumfries and Galloway.

Mr Currie, who sustained head injuries, was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.

The accident happened at about 2.40am on Saturday near Calgow Farm, about a mile east of Newton Stewart.

Police have appealed for the occupants of a blue car which stopped at the scene to contact them. The road was closed for seven hours for collision investigations, with a lengthy diversion put in place.
