Pensioner 'fell down manhole'

A PLUMBER has told a court how he heard a pensioner shout for help after she appeared to fall down a manhole.

Francis McCann, 65, was clearing blocked drains in the basement of British Home Stores in Edinburgh's Princes Street when Mollie McGregor, 77, allegedly fell and injured herself.

He told Edinburgh Sheriff Court he had lifted a manhole cover to check the drainage problem. Cones had been placed to stop shoppers going near the open space.
