A PENSIONER who died in a freak accident after being caught up in a crash between a parked car and runaway lorry, has been named.

John Wood, 86, was walking down Waterside Street in Largs, North Ayrshire on Sunday, when a lorry with no driver rolled down the street and struck a parked car.

Mr Wood was hit by the second vehicle and pro-nounced dead at the scene.

Maureen Hamilton, a spokeswoman from Kilmarnock firm Hamilton Tarmac, which owned the HGV, said they were "shattered". She said: "We are devastated. Everybody here sends their heart-felt sympathies to the family of Mr Wood."

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said inquiries were ongoing and appealed for witnesses.
