Businessman Alan McIntee, 42, of Errol Station, Perthshire, was cleared of kicking the pigeon to death after a case lasting more than 16 months collapsed.
The pigeon disappeared after being taken into police custody and stored in a freezer. Thousands of pounds were spent on the case, including vet fees for a post-mortem on the dead bird.
