PIN inventor's special honour

THE Paisley-born engineer who invented PIN technology is to be honoured at a special ceremony held at prestigious Harvard University in Boston later this month.

James Goodfellow will attend a dinner at the PYMNTS Innovator Awards, set up to encourage initiatives that shape the future of commerce. He came up with the PIN concept in 1965, but his employers owned the patent and he received just £10 for his efforts. Now he is being invited to Harvard, in the presence of billionaire businessman Warren Buffett and former US vice president Al Gore.

"It's a delight to know what I achieved has been recognised," Mr Goodfellow said.
