A planned two-day strike by journalists at BBC Scotland will not go ahead.

Journalists at the NUJ were due to strike today and Monday in the latest round of industrial action over proposed job losses.

The BBC has agreed to drop its March 31 deadline for job losses and talks about redeployment look set to continue.

However, BBC management say there is no guarantee that compulsory job losses can be avoided.

Paul Holleran, Scottish organiser of the union, was pleased the deadline had been dropped and believed the threat of action had "focused their minds".

The BBC said: "We have said all along we will make every effort to find alternative employment for staff under threat of redundancy and those efforts are continuing."
