A project to build a water play area at one of Scotland's top tourist destinations has secured a grant of £65,000.

Scottish Waterways Trust will use the money to support the second phase of The Falkirk Wheel Water Play Area.

Specifically it will create a new "water-based amenity with a timber viewing deck" to provide year-round outdoor play.

The project is one of two in the Falkirk area to secure funding from The Veolia Environmental Trust through the Landfill Communities Fund.

Second Torwood Scout Group received £35,000 towards the extension of their Scout and community hall on Torwoodhead.

A trust spokesman said: "The Scouts are currently based in a barn that has a room and a kitchen at one end. It is anticipated that the new extension will have an activity room, a meeting/training room, toilets and a kitchen. It will be available to community groups as well as providing extra space for the Scouts."

The grants were awarded at the trust's quarterly board meeting last month.
