POLICE have renewed an appeal for witnesses after a man was knocked down and killed by a car.

Ronald Longwill, 54, who was named last night by officers, was struck by a Vauxhall Astra shortly after 9pm on Saturday night in Love Street, Paisley.

Officers said the family of Mr Longwill, of Paisley, who died in the town's Royal Alexandra Hospital, have been informed.

The 24-year-old male driver of the Vauxhall was uninjured.

A full report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal. Police enquiries are continuing.

Sergeant Mark Miller of the Road Policing Unit in Paisley said: "I would ask anyone who was in the area of Love Street around 2100 hours on Saturday evening and saw the crash to come forward.

"Any person with information is asked to telephone Road Policing at Paisley on the non-emergency number 101."

It was one of two road deaths involving pedestrians in Scotland over the weekend.

A 46-year-old man, who has not yet been named, died after being struck by a car at Arden, near the Cameron House Hotel by Loch Lomond, on Saturday.
