RESIDENTS who were told they had to leave their homes after Andy Murray bought a nearby hotel are close to being found new accommodation.

Families living near the Cromlix House Hotel in Perthshire were told they had to move to make way for staff at the hotel which is due to open next month.

Henry and Edward Eden, previous owners of the hotel, served notice on the tenants to leave, which led to the formation of a group to ask the Wimbledon champion to intervene on their behalf.

Stirling Council said it had been in talks with those affected, who were on short-term leases, and it was likely new homes would be provided. A spokeswoman said: "Stirling Council's housing service is continuing to work with its tenants at Cromlix and is confident that alternative accommodation will be found."

Murray's mother, Judy, said that her son had been dragged in to a row after the eviction controversy was widely reported.

Speaking in February, she said: "The facts are I agreed to buy the houses in The Square with vacant possession and with the short-term leases it was thought there would be no problem. The tenants have always known the situation and I understand that accommodation for them will be found."
