A NEW charter of promises has been set out in a bid to entice events organisers to bring major conferences and ceremonies to Glasgow.

The pledges, which included world-class venues, have been published by the Glasgow City Marketing Bureau in the wake of the Commonwealth Games and this week's announcement that the city will host the 2018 European Swimming Championships.

Leader of Glasgow City Council and chairman of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau Councillor Gordon Matheson said: "The charter ... shows why Glasgow is the ideal host for staging events on the global stage based on our proud track record of delivery and our vision for the future."

David Grevemberg, chief executive of Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, said Glasgow was a city with a strong track record of hosting international events.
