POLICE last night stepped up their search for a missing American tourist on the one-week anniversary of her disappearance.

Local officers revisited the town of Aberfeldy in an effort to trace Susan McLean, 61, who was last seen in the area on the evening of Sunday May 17.

One Sergeant and four officers took to the streets between 7pm and 9pm to appeal to witnesses who may have seen Mrs McLean around the time she went missing.

She was in the area as part of a two-week tour of Scotland with her family.

Her husband, Donald, previously launched an emotional appeal for her return, saying: "This has been a very difficult time for our family.

"Susan is a loving wife and mother to our sons James and Donald and we miss her terribly.

"We just want her to be here with us, if anyone knows anything that might help to bring her back to our family, please let the police know so that we can bring her home."

She was last seen on CCTV outside the grounds of Moness Resort on the town's Crieff Road at 7.45pm.

Police have already carried out an extensive search in the town. They have also been searching the road out of Aberfeldy on the A826 after a potential sighting.

They are asking for householders to check their sheds, garages and outbuildings for any signs that she may have been there.

Mrs McLean, who is from Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania, is five feet eight inches tall, of medium build, with short fair hair and green eyes.

She was wearing a black and grey coloured waterproof jacket, beige khaki trousers and light coloured trainers when last seen.
