Police searching for a man missing for almost a month will focus their search on an area of dense woodland after a new confirmed sighting of him.

Tom Robb, whose 75th birthday is today, has not been seen since August 25 when he set out on a walk from his farm in Carron Valley near Stirling.

He was seen by a group of walkers in the Meikle Bin area at around 3.15pm the same day.

Two walkers now say they saw Mr Robb 30 minutes later on a path leading from Todholes Farm to Meikle Bin.

Inspector Charlie Mitchell, of Central Scotland Police, said: "The area of this confirmed sighting is surrounded by dense woodland. We will be refocusing our efforts on this area.

"Tom may have walked along the B818 which can be a busy road. I appeal for anyone who may have seen Tom walking in this direction to come forward."

Mr Robb's family said he often went for walks across his land but his sense of direction had waned through dementia.

In a statement they said: "Saturday September 22 is dad's 75th birthday. Usually on his birthday we would go a family day trip and visit somewhere of interest to him. This year will be very different.

"The search for dad is now a month old. We know it is almost impossible to find him alive at this stage but without a body, it's hard to grieve and hard to give up the smallest hope.

"We have continued as a family and with friends to look for dad. We would appreciate if once again you would look at his photo and think if you may have seen him during the weekend of the August 25."

Mr Robb is 5ft 10in with balding, grey hair. He is of medium build and was wearing a two-tone grey jumper and blue trousers when last seen.
