Police force vet bills cost £250,000 in five years

POLICE forces in Scotland have spent almost £250,000 on treating their dogs and horses over the past five years.

Figures show 15 dogs and two horses injured themselves on duty with causes of injury ranging from treading on broken glass to impaling themselves on tree branches.

In some cases dogs were put down after catching illnesses and one dog was killed after being hit by a car while chasing a deer.
