The move threatens the Scottish Government’s pledge to recruit an additional 1000 personnel by May 2011. Despite having recruited more than 1100 officers, forces are unlikely to be able to retain such levels into next year.

Police forces throughout Scotland have frozen recruitment in a move that will see the number of officers drop dramatically.
