A POLICE helicopter has joined a search for a small aircraft which it is feared has crashed in Perthshire.

A member of the public is believed to have reported seeing a light aircraft or glider plummet towards earth at around 4:40pm today.

Police Scotland said a search has been launched focusing on the area around the town of Caputh, which is around 12 miles north of Perth, although no wreckage has yet been found.

A ground search is also ongoing, supported by the Police helicopter.

It is understood that a single report of an apparent crash has been made.
