Police identify body of man found on Skye shoreline more than five months ago

The body of a man has been identified by police more than five months after it washed up on a shoreline.

Alan Younger, 48, from Kirkcaldy, Fife, was found dead near Kyleakin on the Isle of Skye on September 9 last year. He had not been reported missing and had no identification on him.

The only potential sighting police had was from a motorist who saw a man walking along the verge half a mile away from the Skye Bridge on the morning of the day the body was discovered.

Initial appeals failed to shed any light on his identity so police brought in experts from the Centre for Anatomy and Human Identification at the University of Dundee, who helped establish the age of Mr Younger and created a facial image that was widely publicised and eventually led to his identification.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and a report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.

A police spokesman said: "Police would like to thank members of the public who assisted with their enquiries and those within the University of Dundee, who assisted significantly by producing a facial image of Mr Younger.

"Mr Younger was not reported as a missing person and the last known sighting of him was in August last year.

"There are no suspicious circumstances into Mr Younger's death and a report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal."
