POLICE have made a fresh appeal for assistance in tracing those responsible for a high-value theft from a Dundee jewellers.

It is understood two men entered Stephen Henderson Jewellers in Nethergate at 3.55pm on Friday claiming to want to purchase a diamond ring.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that as shop assistants showed products to the men, they grabbed two high-value rings before running away.

Police have not confirmed what was taken, or the value of the items.

But they have issued new descriptions of the two suspects and said that one of the men was wearing a distinctive navy blue deer stalker hat, lined with cream fur.

He was white, about 5ft 11in tall and had an athletic build, large blue eyes and mousey-coloured facial hair. He was thought to have had a Liverpudlian accent.

He was also wearing a grey and black striped top with long black sleeves, an Adidas hooded gilet with sky blue, grey and white panels on the front and back, which also displayed a white Adidas logo on the right breast, navy Armani jeans and sky blue trainers.

The second man was white, about 5ft 8in tall, of slim build with short, dark hair. He was wearing a black hooded long-sleeved top, light grey Adidas jogging bottoms with dark grey stripes, light-coloured trainers and a dark baseball cap.

Shortly before the incident the men were seen walking up Union Street from the direction of Dundee railway station.
