Friends David Archibald, 59, and Andrew Conlon, 56, both from Dalkeith, had been on one of their regular fishing trips on Gladhouse Reservoir, Gorebridge, on Sunday when they did not return as expected.
The bodies of the men were recovered from the waters of the reservoir in the early hours of Monday.
