POLICE have said they are "extremely pleased" with the response to a Crimewatch appeal for information about a sex attack on a woman in her own home.

They have received 10 calls since the BBC programme aired on Wednesday night, with two callers giving them the same name.

The 32-year-old victim was assaulted by a man who entered her house, threatened her with a firearm, tied her up and demanded money.

He then sexually assaulted her before fleeing in a BMW car, which was later found abandoned near Plains in North Lanarkshire.

The attack happened at about 8.30am on Thursday September 5 last year at a house near Salsburgh in North Lanarkshire.

Detective Chief Inspector Garry Church said: "The information will now be followed up by the inquiry team."

The murder of Jean Campbell, whose body was found in a Glasgow park, also featured in the programme. The mother-of-two was discovered by her husband on Saturday December 14 in Cranhill Park.

The 53-year-old was last seen walking her dog the night before.

Officers last week turned to Facebook users to help find the killer and have now said they received a positive response to the appeal.

Meanwhile, detectives investigating the murder of a grandmother as she house-sat for friends have received around 20 calls following their Crimewatch appeal.

The officer leading the hunt for 55-year-old Valerie Graves' killer said they were "particularly interested" in a couple of calls made during the broadcast.

Detective Superintendent Nick May, of the Surrey and Sussex major crime team, re-appealed for information about a hammer found in the village where the killing occurred. It is thought to have been used to bludgeon Ms Graves to death.

Artist Ms Graves, who until recently had been living near Jedburgh in the Borders, was found with significant head and facial injuries in a bedroom at the property in Bosham, near Chichester, West Sussex, on December 30.

She was murdered as she house-sat with her mother, sister and her sister's partner while the owners were abroad over Christmas.
