Police are hunting a man who shouted racially aggravated abuse at another man in a town street.

The incident happened in the High Street in Hawick in the Borders at about 11pm yesterday.

A 21-year-old man was walking along the road from the top of Baker Street when an unknown man shouted racially aggravated abuse at him.

The suspect is described as white, in his late teens or early 20s, 5ft 7ins to 6ft, with red/blonde short hair and a stocky build. He was wearing a red/orange coloured hoodie.

Police appealed for information about the incident.

Inspector Mike Bennett said: "For this young man to be subject to such unprovoked abuse as he went about his daily business is shocking.

"This behaviour is absolutely unacceptable in our community and I'd urge anyone who witnessed this incident, or has information which can help with our enquiries, to come forward."
