In a novel approach to fighting crime, police in Edinburgh have tweeted the loss of £33,000-worth of cannabis - and asked for its owner to come looking for it.

In the social media message, which has received over 2000 retweets, Police Scotland said: "Any1 lost 33k of cannabis in the Edinburgh area? Don't panic, we found it. Please come to the station to collect."

The tweet was accompanied by an image and is believed to be in relation to a raid carried out in the capital on Monday.

The message is among many other light-hearted tweets posted from the account in recent times, including one advising drivers how to deal with impending snow which read: "Unless ur a tank commander u shouldn't drive peering thru a tiny gap. Winter driving advice..."
