Police investigating the death of a man in a hit-and-run incident are trying to trace two drivers who may have been witnesses.

Ian Brown, 48, was struck as he walked home to Dailly in South Ayrshire after a night out with friends at Girvan bowling club on Saturday, July 28.

His wife, Myra, and her sister, Yvonne Holland, issued a statement through Strathclyde Police last month and officers said the public had been "incredibly helpful" in providing information, but they are still trying to trace the vehicle involved in the collision.

Sergeant Jackie Dunbar said: "I am particularly keen on speaking to the driver of a dark old-style Land Rover that was on the B734 near to Old Dailly at around 2230 on July 27, and also the driver of a silver-grey saloon that was seen on the B734 in the early hours of Saturday, July 28, as I believe they may have witnessed something that may help with our investigation.

"I would also ask the public to think if they know someone who has been acting out of character since Saturday, July 28.

"I have no doubt someone has information that can help our inquiry and help Mr Brown's grieving family."

Relatives said in a statement they needed to know what had happened to Mr Brown.

They added: "Ian was a loving husband and father. His death has left our whole family devastated and we will miss him dearly. We live in a small community and are well-known within that community.

"His death will be a great loss. I am asking anyone who knows anything, even if they think it's not relevant, to please pass it on to the police. It's so important to us we find out what happened to Ian."
