Police Taser pilot breaches human rights

A controversial police pilot backed by ministers to allow frontline officers to use Tasers is unlawful and in breach of human rights, according to a 50-page legal report.

The report by an eminent QC commissioned by Amnesty International concludes that the Strathclyde Police pilot is “unlawful”.

John Watson, head of Amnesty in Scotland, has written to Kenny MacAskill, the Justice Secretary, calling for the pilot to be scrapped.
