A missing Russian student may have travelled to the north or far west of Scotland after disappearing almost a month ago, police believe.

Yulia Solodyankina, 22, who was studying physics at Edinburgh University, was reported missing on June 12. She was last spotted on CCTV at Glasgow's Buchanan Street bus station at around 4.55pm on June 7.

Investigators now think she boarded a bus at the station, with the most likely destination Fort William or Inverness. They are making inquiries at the two locations as well as other possible destinations such as Largs, Campbeltown, Ardrishaig and Oban.

Chief Inspector Mark Patterson, from Police Scotland, said: "Yulia was last seen on CCTV at Buchanan Street bus station and from there we think she may have travelled either to the Highlands or to Argyll and Bute. Our belief is based on previous visits that Yulia made to some of these areas, along with the destinations of buses that left from Buchanan bus station about the time she arrived from Edinburgh. We want to speak to anyone in the areas where Yulia may have travelled to by bus from Glasgow who thinks they may have seen her."

When last seen Ms Solodyankina was wearing a dark coat with a belt, dark shoulder bag, a red and orange scarf, grey trousers and brown shoes. She speaks fluent English with a strong Russian accent, is 5ft 6in and has a small mole on her left cheek. Her ears are pierced and she wears a distinctive thumb ring shaped like a spoon.
