Police watchdog attacks officer numbers obsession

THE head of Scotland's largest police watchdog has accused all political parties of presiding over irreparable damage to policing due to their collective obsession with officer numbers.

With the new single force just months away and around 3000 civilian staff facing the axe, Strathclyde Police Authority (SPA) chairman Phil Braat has launched a political attack on the impact of cuts on staff and the service.
