A SCOTTISH girl who has been in a coma since a holiday accident more than a month ago has spent five hours off her ventilator.
Parents of four-year-old Cally Simpson spoke of their delight after the youngster showed signs of progress in an Edinburgh hospital.
Cally has been in a coma since she was pulled unconscious from a swimming pool in Spain in June. Her parents were told at the time that she may be brain-dead. Two weeks later specialists in Barcelona told them it was "improbable" she would ever wake up from her coma.
However, parents Kate Miller and Steven Simpson took to social media last night to update followers on a "massive day" for the youngster. They said: "Hey guys, Cally's had a massive day - she got clothes on, been off her ventilator for five hours and sitting in a chair.
"What a day. "Mummy and daddy so proud of our hero xxxxxx."
Cally, from Arbroath, had been on her first foreign holiday, to Salou, with her father Steven and grandmother Wendy Simpson when the accident happened.
Since July 15, Cally has been treated at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh. She had contracted a chest infection and virus in recent weeks but she was said to be beating both of them.
