Portrait of an artist

A NEW exhibition of portraits by John Byrne, the Scottish artist and playwright, opens in Edinburgh tomorrow.

Sitting Ducks at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery features 30 of his paintings and drawings from the early 1970s to the present day and runs from June 14 to October 19. Among the highlights are portraits of the actress Tilda Swinton, the artist's former partner and images of the comedian Billy Connolly.
