TWO lawyers who worked on the Leveson Inquiry into media ethics and who had an affair are to have their own professional conduct reviewed.

Carine Patry Hoskins, a lawyer to the inquiry, became involved with David Sherbourne, a barrister representing celebrities in favour of press regulation.

Ms Patry Hoskins, who is a graduate of Glasgow University, visited Greece with Mr Sherbourne in August last year, shortly after hearings had finished, but claims their affair did not begin until after the Leveson report was published in November.

Rob Wilson MP (Conservative) has called for an inquiry into the relationship, with reports that the Bar Standards Board is now to look into his complaint.

Lawyers are advised not to get involved in relationships with colleagues working on the opposite side of a case or inquiry to avoid any allegations of breach of trust or conspiracy.

Lord Justice Leveson has strongly rejected claims the relationship between Ms Patry Hoskins, who is divorced, and Mr Sherbourne will have had any bearing on the report into the Inquiry, with all recommendations in the report his own.

The Bar Standards Board do not comment on individual cases. It will carry out an initial assessment with a decision then taken whether an official investigation should proceed.
