A list of the most popular books in Scottish prisons has revealed inmates' wide ranging taste in literature from autobiographies by gangsters Paul Ferris and Reg Kray to Harry Potter and Fifty Shades of Grey.

The Book of Glasgow Murders is the most sought after book in the city's Barlinnie Prison, while prisoners in HMP Edinburgh have requested fantasy series Guardians of the West and JK Rowling's Harry Potter more than any other titles.

The information, revealed under freedom of information laws, also shows inmates in Grampian prefer something different again, with E.L. James' Fifty Shades of Grey and sequel Fifty Shades Freed both featuring in the prison's top ten.

Number one on the list at HMP Addiewell is Drawing for Dummies, with Paul Ferris' The Ferris Conspiracy and a book on Scottish murders also featuring on the list there.

While in Kilmarnock, true crime novel The Interceptor by Cameron Addicott - which looks at covert investigation techniques - is number one, closely followed by Journey to Hell, a book by a former inmate at the notorious San Antonio Prison in Venezuela.

Fantasy series Game of Thrones, now a cult TV show, also featured heavily in the lists.
