Private sector growth slows to 20-month low

SCOTLAND's private sector growth slowed to a 20-month low last month as economic uncertaintly hit manufacturing and leisure firms.

The Puchasing Managers Index from Bank of Scotland recorded only marginal growth as the country's fragile recovery lost further momentum. The headline index reading fell from 51 in July to 50.3 in August. Donald MacRae, chief economist at the bank, said: "The Scottish economy is struggling to maintain growth momentum."
