SIX pro-Palestinian activists have been arrested following a demonstration at the Glasgow premises of defence systems firm Thales UK.

Members of Glasgow Palestine Action climbed on to the roof of the building in Govan, and hung a Palestinian flag and a banner reading Stop Arming Israel. Further protesters blocked the gates.

The group said the action is in response to the recent Israeli bombardment of Gaza and "the UK economy's ever-growing military industrial co-operation with governments that flout international law".

Activists said Thales was being targeted for its relationship with Israel's largest defence company and drone producer Elbit Systems. Fiona McDermot, one of the roof occupiers, said: "Drones are a key part of Israel's military arsenal. By allowing this factory to export drone components and other arms to Israel, the UK Government is providing direct support and approval to Israel's massacres." Thales was unavailable for comment.
