Timeline:

March 2003: Chris Huhne's BMW is clocked speeding in Essex, as he returned from a meeting in Brussels where he was an MEP. Essex Police informed Pryce was the driver. She later receives three penalty points.

2005: Huhne becomes MP for Eastleigh.

2006: Huhne beaten to LibDem leadership by Sir Menzies Campbell.

2007: Huhne narrowly beaten to party leadership by Nick Clegg, and becomes home affairs spokesman.

May 2010: Huhne joins new Tory-LibDem Coalition Government, appointed Energy and Climate Change Secretary. His affair with his PR adviser Carina Trimingham is exposed, ending his 26-year marriage to Vicky Pryce.

May 2010: Two Sunday newspapers report allegations that Huhne asked someone – Pryce – to take his speeding points in 2003 after tip from Vicky Pryce. Huhne and Pryce are questioned by police.

February 2012: Director of Public Prosecutions Keir Starmer announces Huhne and Pryce will be charged with perverting the course of justice. Huhne stands down from Government, but vows to fight the accusation.

June 2012: Pryce pleads not guilty to the charge and the court hears she is planning a defence of marital coercion. No plea is entered by Huhne.

February 4 2013: On the first day of their trial, Huhne changes his plea to guilty.

February 5: Pryce's trial begins.

February 20: Jury discharged after failing to reach a verdict.

February 25: Pryce's retrial begins.

March 7: Pryce is found guilty of perverting the course of justice.
