Purple reign

The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh have attended a service of commemoration at the Scottish National War Memorial at Edinburgh Castle.

The monarch also unveiled a memorial garden marking the start of the First World War.

It formed part of a her traditional week of engagements in Scotland as she is in residence at the Palace of Holyroodhouse for Holyrood week.
