Accountant Derek Mitchell faced claims he assaulted the 44-year-old mother of his two children at Paisley Sheriff Court yesterday from custody.
He had spent the weekend in custody after being arrested on Friday over the allegations.
Stephen Bentley, defending, told Sheriff Mungo Bovey, QC, that Mr Mitchell was making no plea or declaration to the four charges against him.
Prosecutors allege that Mr Mitchell repeatedly assaulted Ms McGuire between 2009 and 2011.
Court documents allege that the offences took place at the family residence in Eaglesham, in East Renfrewshire, and elsewhere.
Mr Mitchell has also been charged with wilfully or recklessly destroying or damaging his wife's property, including her BMW car outside the family home in April 2010.
Wearing a black suit and white, open-necked shirt, 34-year-old Mr Mitchell was bailed to an address in East Kilbride.
As part of the bail order, Mr Mitchell has been banned from approaching Ms McGuire.
